Dr Sue Cobb

Sue Cobb

Is a founder member and Research Manager of VIRART, and an Associate Consultant of the IOE. She obtained her PhD at the University of Nottingham, exploring the human information processing aspects of teach pendant control input for robot arm movement. She has worked as Project Manager on various research projects including the EPSRC funded proposal (grant number GR/ J57643) discussed above. Furthermore she has managed projects for commercial companies exploring human factors issues of tele-operation in the nuclear industry (funded by BNFL/GNSR, 1996), and design and evaluation of an in-cab driver display for the rail industry (funded by British Rail Research, 1996). She has been a co-investigator and project manager for fundamental research such as, experimental assessment of health and safety effects of using VR technology (Health and Safety Executive 3181/R53.133, 1993-1996) and a comparison of effects produced by different VE display media (Health and Safety Executive 3812/R67.130, 1998-1999). She was also evaluation manager in a project funded by the National Lottery Charities Board using virtual environments to provide Life Skills training to adults with learning disabilities (1997-1998) and is currently workpackage leader for evaluation of a European funded project to develop new technologies to support collaborative storytelling in primary school children (KidStory within i3 net, ESPRIT, 1998-2001).
