Temporal Patterns of Interaction and Engagement in Pervasive Experiences

Methods and Tools to Evaluate Pervasive, Mobile and UbiComp Experiences

current projects

As the settings of today's human-computer interactions become increasingly mobile and temporally fragmented, new challenges for the support of the user experience and methods to evaluate the quality of the experience are required. I study the users' temporal patterns of interaction in long-term experiences such as Day of the Figurines to learn about and eventually support the diffusion of such experiences into the users' everyday lives.

I argue that the detection of temporal patterns of play allow for the estimation of player engagement. These inferences can in turn be used to adapt the experience to the temporal context of the players to facilitate the players disengagement from the game, their re-engagement, and provide players with awareness information of other players' states.
