Dave Kirk

BSc (Hons), MSc, PhD, C.Psychol

I am a Lecturer of Human Computer Interaction in the Mixed Reality Lab, at the University of Nottingham. I have a background in experimental psychology (BSc, University of York) and Ergonomics (MSc, Loughborough University) and completed my PhD here in the Mixed Reality Lab (part funded by the well known Equator project). I have also been a member of the Socio-Digital Systems Group at Microsoft Research in Cambridge where I worked as a post-doc for several years under Richard Harper and Abi Sellen.

I work in a variety of user-focused areas using a mix of qualitative (ethnographic) and quantitative (experimental) research methodologies. I have a background in researching remote collaboration tools (specifically video-mediated communication) but increasingly I've been working in domestic technologies exploring the wonderfully complex, sociable and messy ways in which people live their lives and attempting to apply an understanding of this to the design of new technologies.
