Brief summary of results
- In relation
to most demographic factors the sample was fairly diverse. However females
were significantly under represented.
- Participants
listed a wide range of features they particularly liked/disliked about
their navigation systems.
- Most
participants rated voice and display as of equal importance as sources of
route guidance information.
- Most
participants reported no change in their exploration of unfamiliar areas
since acquiring a navigation system.
- Participants
reported having received a range of dangerous/illegal/unreliable route
guidance instructions. A significant proportion of participants admitted to
having followed these instructions on at least one occasion.
- Participants
gave a variety of reasons for why they had/had not updated the maps on
their navigation systems.
- Most
participants thought that using a navigation system was less distracting
than conventional navigation methods (e.g. paper maps).
- Two
thirds of participants thought that some form of destination entry should
be allowed while driving, while a third thought no form of destination
entry should be allowed while driving.
- Only
a quarter of participants said that they never entered destinations while
driving.
- Most
participants thought that access to quick and easily executed navigation
system functions (e.g. change volume, change view) should be allowed while
driving.
